This small central American country is a haven for tropical wildlife, one of the top wildlife destinations in the world! Colourful toucans, hummingbirds and parrots abound in the forests, several turtle species nest on the beaches, thick rainforest hides the enigmatic Jaguar and dramatic active volcanoes tower over the beautiful landscapes. Explore the forest trails and canopy walks, travel by boat through the jungle rivers, climb the volcanic slopes through coffee plantations and spend time meeting the people of this colourful country.

Costa Rica is full of wonder and adventure holiday options. Flying into the capital, San Jose, you can explore the central highlands and volcanoes nearby.  This is a fertile, hilly region where much coffee is grown and active volcanoes can be observed, puffing in the distance!  There are some active volcanoes that you can get up close to and see inside the steaming, bubbling craters.

Three hours drive from Arenal is the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, a wonderland for naturalists worldwide, with it’s lush forests, extremely rich in bi0-diversity.  Heading to the Pacific coast there are two main areas at each end of Costa Rica’s southern coastline that each have contrasting scenery and wildlife.  The Osa Peninsula down near the border with Panama has coastal rainforest vegetation, whereas the northern Nicoya Peninsula has open pastureland. In the lowlands between the two areas are gorgeous sweeping beaches with palm groves and rocky headlands.

On the Caribbean Coast there is a laid back, friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy family run restaurants anbd sheltered beaches. Tropical forests such as Tortuguero National Park are home to many species of monkey, frogs and reptiles plus river otters, sloths and ocelots. A land of canyons, rainforests and dramatic rock faces provides the backdrop for a white water rafting adventure if you feel like getting active on the Pacuare River.
