Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands are in the Western Caribbean, just 480 miles south of Miami in USA and 180 miles northwest of Jamaica.  There are three low lying Cayman Island which are actually peaks of an underwater mountain range, which makes for crystal clear diving and snorkelling.  The warm, clear waters and sandy beaches are perfect for enjoying the sun and sand and although there is modern technology here, it’s really a place that people go to escape the world and is a fabulous wedding and honeymoon destination.

Grand Cayman is the largest of the islands but is still only 76 sq miles. Little Cayman is the smallest at just 10 sq miles and Cayman Brac is 14 sq miles and the furthest east.  There are direct flights from London to Grand Cayman 4 times a week or you can connect via the USA, Jamaica or Cuba.

There are no compulsory vaccinations, no visa is required and the average year round temperature is in the late 20s C. The heaviest rain falls May to October. George Town on Grand Cayman is the capital and main airport, there are small airport on the other two islands.

Most hotels and restaurants can be found to the west coast of Grand Cayman on the Seven Mile Beach.  This area has gentle, sloping, sandy beaches great for families and also for couples. Other great beaches can be found at Rum Point, North Side and Little Cayman’s Point of Sand.  The other islands of Little Cayman and Cayman Brac are about 40 mins by air from Grand Cayman and perfect for nature and bird watching holidays. There are various marine and nature parks all around the Cayman Islands. For nature lovers, head to Cayman Brac for birdwatching on the bluff where you can see Frigate Birds, Brown Boobies, Peregrine Falcons and the rare Black Parrot in their natural habitat.  Boatswain’s Beach is home to more than 14,000 Green Sea Turtles and the visitor centre lets you see these creatures from tiny babies to full grown adults. The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park is home to tropical plants of the Cayman Islands. Follow a trail through lush gardens with over 300 species of native plants and fabulous colourful birds.

Diving is a major pastime in the Caymans and Little Cayman is home to a legendary dirve site, a sheer coral wall called Bloody Bay Wall Marine Park, which begins at 20ft and plunges to 6000ft. You can also go under water in the Atlantis submarine around the Caymans and swim with gentle Southern Stingrays in shallow waters at the Stingray City visitor centre. Sailing, kayaking and kite surfing are other popular water sports here.

Pedro St James on Grand Cayman, in the Savannah area has a wonderful heritage and is a reconstruction of the Great House originally built in 1780, set in magnificent grounds. If you like dining out you will be spoilt on the Cayman Islands with about 150 restaurants on Grand Cayman alone!  If you want to explore, I can arrange a hire car for you to get around the main island on a self drive holiday.

We LOVED Sunshine suites, staff were very friendly, accomodation clean and the food at the Sunshine Grill was great and affordable. The beach was only 2 minutes away and we enjoyed finding slightly less crowded places only a 5 minute walk away. Snorkeling was great only a few yards into the sea and was just great!

The Wedding was stunning, flowers were simple and the bride looked beautiful. The reception was at Osetra Bay and they had decorated this with moroccan lanterns with candles and this looked amazing! Food was great, michelin standard. Great time.  We went to Stingray City was was very interesting! It was scary to start off with having so many stingray swimming so close and I was worried about stepping on one but it was fine, I ended up feeding one, holding one and giving one a kiss!!!! Was great fun. Lee and I went for a dive, this was Lee’s first dive which he loved, I have my open water and he couldn’t stop talking about it for days!!

We then went to Little Cayman for a night and stayed at Pirates Point resort which is quite infamous over there! We went snorkelling out there near to bloody bay and the 6000ft drop off which was AMAZING! Such an experience, even if we were only snorkelling, can’t even begin to imagine how great it would have been diving! We had some chill time with a turtle, at one point I got so close I had to try and swim backwards but he got used to us and we swam with him for a bit, completely natural.   See testimonials page for more comments about TWJ services.
