Orang-utans and Jungles

An amazing two week family holiday to Borneo with a combination of wildlife, jungles and tropical beaches – rafting, snorkelling, orang-utan sanctuary and stay in a traditional longhouse!

Borneo has a wonderful combination of rainforests and beaches and it’s main endearing resident is the gorgeous Orang-utan!  This trip will enable you and your children to get up close to the ‘old man of the forest’ and also other animals such as Asian Elephants, Proboscis Monkeys and thousands of bats in the Gomantong Caves!

You can snorkel over coral reefs and swim in warm water, bathe in mud volcanoes, visit local villages, try traditional bamboo trampolines and get a tribal henna tattoo!

Arriving from London into Kuala Luampar in Malaysia you will fly to Kota Kinabalu in Malaysian Borneo. There is a free day on arrival with optional visits to the adventure park nearby with go-karting and ropes or a wildlife park.  You will then fly to Sandakan and visit the Rainforest Discovery Centre and the famous Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary.  After that you enjoy an afternoon river cruise on the Kinabatangan River. Next day there is a dawn river cruise and jungle walk with tree planting and optional night safari.  Then you drive to a tea plantation for two nights in a traditional Malaysian longhouse – visit Gomantong Caves and the bats on the way.

Full day of jungle walks river swimming and tour of the tea factory. Drive to Kota Kinabalu via Mari Mari cultural village and visit an aquarium.  Then an adventure day with whitewater rafting and indoor rock climbs.  Next day transfer to Pulau Tiga and rest of day relaxing and exploring beaches.  Then a day at leisure on the coast and optional excursions such as snorkelling, kayaking or the mud volcano.  A final trip to the beaches before returning to Kota Kinabalu and back to London.

This trip runs at Easter, summer holiday and in December, to fit with school holidays and group size is minimum 6, maximum 20 plus a leader and local staff. There are long flights to get there and some long days travelling and children should be able to swim. The weather can be hot and humid and you should check medical advice about malaria protection.

This is just one family itinerary to Borneo – ask me for others to suit your requirements and dates.
